Confirmation Information 2025–2026
Overview: Confirmation at Shepherd of the Sierra is a time for youth to learn the foundations of the Christian faith, explore God’s Word, and grow as disciples of Jesus.
- Not a graduation program, but a step in lifelong discipleship
- Think of it as a New Member Class for youth
- Not required for communion, but one way to prepare
- Families are invited to learn alongside their students using the materials provided
Proposed Schedule
- First Sunday of each month (October – May)
- 11:30 am – 2:00 pm (lunch included)
- Additional fellowship nights on select nights with food, games, and review

- Guided by Truth: Enduring Faith Confirmation Journal
- Designed for both class and family participation
- Provides structure for discussions and review
- Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation (2017 Edition)
- Essential resource for learning the foundations of the faith
Year 1: The Big Story of the Bible
- God’s plan of salvation from Genesis to Revelation
- Small Catechism used as a supplement
Year 2: The Small Catechism
- Study of Luther’s Small Catechism
- Review of Old & New Testament
Flexibility:
- Students are encouraged to participate for two years
- Families may choose one, two, or three years
- The Confirmation Journal is designed for two years but can be accelerated (1 year) or extended (3 years)
Special Events
- Year-End Trivia Event: Adults and youth will compete in a fun trivia challenge to see what students have learned throughout the year.
- Confirmation Sunday: A special service to recognize and celebrate all students who participated.
Family Partnership
- Confirmation is a partnership between church and home
- The journal is designed for use in class and at home
- Families are encouraged to pray, review, and discuss lessons together
- Some Sunday classes will be designed for families to attend together, giving parents and guardians the opportunity to learn alongside their students.
